Man faces felony charges after discharging firearm

A Minot man faces multiple felony charges after discharging a firearm in his home June 26.

Det. Sgt. Jay Laudenschlager of the Minot Police Department said Scott Smith, 44, was charged with terrorizing and reckless endangerment, both Class C felonies, after firing 24 shots from a large caliber handgun into his bedroom walls around 10:45 p.m. The home is located in the 1400 block of 14th Avenue Southwest.

Some of the rounds exited the house, striking other property in the area, including another house, a vehicle and a light pole. Laudenschlager said the bullets striking the house didn't enter the residence, and there were no injuries.

Laudenschlager said police don't know the reason for the outburst, but he noted when police made contact with Smith, he was initially upset over some events that were taking place in his life.

Smith was released from Ward County Jail on Tuesday after posting bond.
