Reservist balks at deployment, challenging Obama's citizenship
A U.S. Army major is challenging his deployment to Afghanistan by charging that President Obama was not born in the United States and was therefore never eligible to be president, the Ledger-Enquirer reports.
The suit by Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook, a reservist living in Florida, was filed in U.S. District Court in Georgia last week.
The Columbus, Ga., newspaper notes that Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, two years after it became a state.
Cook’s California-based lawyer, Orly Taitz, seeks a temporary restraining order and status as a conscientious objector for his client.
In a 20-page document filed with the court, Cook states he “would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President’s command. ... simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties.”
Cook was ordered to active duty on June 9 and would go to Fort Benning, Ga., before deploying overseas.Source: http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/07/reservist-balks-at-deployment-challenging-obamas-citizenship-.html
